Orillia

EXPLORE
THE COMMUNITY
There’s no place I’d rather call home.
The City of Orillia (also known as the ‘Sunshine City’ based on the book by renowned author Stephen Leacock) offers more than 30 restaurants and bars, and 150-plus shops, in its historic downtown core, about a 10-minute walk from Couchiching Beach Park and the Port of Orillia. Having three freshwater lakes bordering the city (Lake Couchiching, Lake Simcoe and Bass Lake) is one of the major draws for tourists and cottagers, but it’s also the greatest perk about living in the Sunshine City. Those of us who live here get to enjoy so many recreational opportunities within steps of our front door! It’s a four-season utopia for outdoor enthusiasts!
But, don’t let the fun-loving nature of Orillia, with its waterways, nearby ski hills, biking/hiking trails and parks fool you. The city is also a major employment centre, with OPP Headquarters, OPP Central Region Headquarters, Lakehead University, Georgian College, Casino Rama, Hydro One and many more.
There are so many different types of neighbourhoods in Orillia, too. If you’re interested in new builds, there are plenty west of Highway 11. Waterfront and historic neighbourhoods can also be found, along with a healthy mix of bungalows, splits and two-level homes throughout the city.
The beauty of our small community is even if you don’t live on the water in Orillia, you are still within walking distance or a 10-minute drive to the nearest beach!
But, you don’t have to live in Orillia to enjoy what the city has to offer. Unique pockets around its perimeter provide amazing open places to cottage, live, and raise your family. Those who travel through the northern area of Simcoe County know that the journey really can be just as enjoyable as the destination with a plethora of quaint villages and neighbourhoods throughout. These tiny communities are big on unique offerings that keep people coming back. These areas shouldn’t be missed when looking for a place to call home. They are about an hour and a half down Highway 11/400 to Toronto.
